Toughening Resins for 3D Printing

William Wolf, Sartomer

Abstract: The wave of Additive manufacturing is upon us but not without its short comings. Traditional materials have been plagued with brittleness and overall poor mechanical properties limiting them to the prototyping world of parts. As formulators, chemists and engineers we’ve been developing impact resistant materials for additive manufacturing to promote the use of UV curable resins to offset traditional manufacturing. Toughening mechanisms and specific structures will be reviewed to examine the structure property relationship for impact resistant UV curables.
